ABOUT ME

Hannah Nicholson-Totte || 22 || Cardiff

Capturing passion and documenting stories is at the core of everything I do in my professional work as a filmmaker, photographer. and multi-media journalist.  Having been described as calmly confident, hard-working, with creative eye, I aim to produce high-quality work and innovative content while being approachable. This allows me to work positively across different industries and genres, in challenging situations, and to shoot with people of all levels of confidence and experience.

Freelance Photographer || My portfolio includes 15+ high-profile music festivals, political events such as the Save Gwdihw March and the DFLA Protest and Counter-Protest in London, portraiture for Spotlight Casting Agency, and other projects such as high fashion shoots, theatre and behind the scenes film set photography.

Editor @ Native Cardiff || During my 10-month editorial role with national magazine Native, I was responsible for curating and creating innovative content regarding local and music scene news, managing a dedicated team of writers, and meeting with artists, venues, promoters, management teams, and other creatives to secure partnerships and collaboration opportunities. My work includes pieces such as How To Smash a Night Out in Cardiff, Exposed: GRL TLK, Exposed: Girls Against at Swn Festival, Get To Know: Merthyr Rising, In Conversation With: Boy Azooga, Merthyr Hosts Festival to Honour Local Musician, and several reviews for bands such as AL MOSES and GIRLI.

Being a Filmmaker specialising in Documentary has given me experience researching stories, and building a positive rapport whilst engaging with those in the stories. My work includes an 8-minute documentary about the importance of Cardiff-based Mental Health organisation ‘Heads Above the Waves’ and the resilience of those behind it, developing an hour and a half long documentary about Merthyr Tydfil’s radical political history and the role their annual festival plays in challenging the town's reputation at the hands of the press, and a multitude of other work such as Live Acoustic Sessions at Bristol’s Dot2Dot Festival, music videos and video lecture material for Worcester University.

Founder @ NOX Magazine || During my first year at university I was almost always at a gig and always looking to discover new music, which piqued my interest in music journalism.  That summer I worked as a photographer on the festival circuit. Finding it frustratingly hard to break into music journalism, I decided to create that opportunity for myself and others.  NOX gives young talent the opportunity to practice reviewing, interviewing and writing, and the platform to promote grassroots music and fresh ideas.  Established in 2017, it contains reviews such as Dermot Kennedy at Cardiff University Student Union, an original series 'Gwreiddiau' and several fashion think-pieces, art articles and interviews
